Of Blogs and Backpackers

Its a non indian thing to BackPack...

I had the chance to be part of the Full moon party at the Had Rin Sunset beach at Koh PhanYan Island off the coast of mainland Thailand. The party happens once every month on full moon night. Party Goers from all around the world converge to this one location and its complete insanity.

Imagine a Massive beach for a dancefloor. 15 different kinds of music being belted out by international and local dj's, alchohol completely cheap cheeep (like the thai call it), and partygoers from all over the world. Every single flavour you want you get, British, American, Spanish, French, Brazilian, Iranian, Australian, Russian, Chezh, Italian, Swedish.. (ooh the swedish women...) ... and everyone dressed in .. hold your breath.. " BEACH WEAR" sigh!
(((afternote :- if only i was single. *wink*)))

I Felt completely exotic.. being the only.. read again... and aloud.. ONLY INDIAN in a beach of 15,000 party goers going completely insane and ballistic. Complete chaos and madness!!!

For the more aggressive .. and wishful.. take a peek..

Anyways.. coming back to the point...Its a non indian thing to BackPack...

Indians just dont back pack. Ill Prove it to you.
How many people do you know who've gone outside the country just for the pleasure of travelling???
Among those people how many have gone say.. to cambodia, laos, Vietnam, Thailand?
Everyone seems to be going to US, UK, Australia and the Gulf of course (to be read Mallufornia)
And among the minority who head to say.. Thailand.. how many people have gone beyond Bangkok and the most commercial Pattaya beach?
Im sure there are a few adventurous amongst us who have gone to phuket or even phi phi...
but then again.... how many people????
How many people actually travel only with a Backpack and on a stringent budget?
How many aspire to get down with the locals and do the local things, eat local food, live like a local, dress like a local.

The answer... VERY VERY FEW~!!!!!

Statistics reveal that the average number of vacation days europeans and americans and russians (basically everyone else) take are FAR higher than us Indians!
and even if we take a vacation we go to GOA or to OOTY or to Kulu Manali.
Maybe Thats cuz the Indian Ruppee isnt too strong a currency?
Maybe thats because there's so much to see in India that we dont want to get out of here?
Maybe we like the comfort of home too much?
All arguable points but still not pointing out a solid answer!

Indians are TOP PODcasters, Bloggers and secondlifers. Indians are international quality fashion designers, chefs, musicians, filmmakers, scientists, media personalities.
Im trying to figure out why us indians dont BACKPACK?
Any answers?

Prove my theory wrong and head to Thailand.. Dont go to Bangkok or the boring Pattaya... pack just one backpack and head to Koh PhanYan... the next full moon pawdy is on the 14th of January 2006.

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to Everyone
Love
Anjaan

Anjan...

To think that our country has more than half of its population under poverty and the most of the other half trying to survive one day at a time, I really do not see them enjoying either a backpack even to the neighboring state...

So to generalise that Indians do not backpack is not very appropriate...You should say that "Most Wealthy Indians do not backpack..." might be more appropriate...

Also note that Thailand being a poor country itself (but for its florishing tourism) does not offer any job opportunities for either MALLU's or any Indians...And Therefore most Indians leaving to travel abroad also do it more as a job option rather than a vacation...

Sorry to be so critical

When I first visit Bangkok I found that I can see Temples everywhere, especially during the tour of the Chao Phraya River. I've saw the real lifes of people living on both sides of the river, It's a heart warming experience for me. One things to remember: when visiting temples, show respect to the Buddha, and the monks. Take off your shoes before entering into the hall and don't wear shorts or tank tops in temples.
